Detty Kurnia was an Indonesian singer and songwriter born in 1960 in Bandung. Kurnia specialized in pop sunda, a genre blending Western pop with traditional Sundanese music, and was a performer of dangdut. The daughter of gamelan musician Iding Martawijiya, Kurnia established a musical career at age six and recorded her debut album, Tong Sologoto, at age 11. In 1981, Kurnia began a nine-year tenure with Dian Records, recording 40 songs. Her international career featured a collaboration with producer Makoto Kubota for the album Rayungan. In 1991, Kurnia recorded the album Dari Sunda, which was later included in the 1995 Women of the World series. Her recording career featured the album Coyor Panon (1993) and the songs “Rose Bodas” and “Maribaya”. Kurnia performed at international fairs in Osaka and Tokyo during the 1990s, and her music appeared in the compilation The Rough Guide to the Music of Indonesia. Kurnia died of cancer on April 20, 2010.
