Frances Gay, known professionally as Frankie Gaye, was born on November 15, 1941, in Washington D.C., and was an American singer. He began his musical journey singing in church and with local doo-wop groups alongside his elder brother Marvin Gaye. In the mid-1970s, Frankie started working with Marvin, joining him on concert tours and contributing background vocals to hits like "Got to Give It Up, Pt. 1". In 1989, Frankie signed with Motorcity Records and released two singles, "Extraordinary Girl" and "My Brother", the latter featured in his 1990 album My Brother. Frankie's recollections of his Vietnam War experiences inspired Marvin Gaye's song "What's Happening, Brother", from the album What's Going On (1971). In addition to his musical career, Frankie co-composed music for the 1979 film Penitentiary. He died on December 28, 2001, at age 60.
