Ananda Sukarlan is an Indonesian-Spanish classical composer and pianist born on June 10, 1968, in Jakarta. He began his musical education at age five and later graduated from the Royal Conservatory of The Hague in 1993. Sukarlan was diagnosed with Asperger syndrome and Tourette syndrome at age 28. In 1994, he received the third prize at the Concours International d'Orléans. Sukarlan performed as a soloist with symphony orchestras across Europe and performed with the Portuguese National Symphony Orchestra in 2000. His discography included the studio recordings The Pentatonic Connection and Complete Piano Works of Juanjo Mier Cáraves. His compositions featured the musical pieces “Rapsodia Nusantara” and “Ibu—yang anaknya diculik itu”. His works were commissioned by the Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music and the Indonesian Opera Society. Sukarlan founded the Yayasan Musik Sastra Indonesia.
