The Lady Of Rage

Trailblazing US rapper Robin Yvette Allen, known professionally as Lady of Rage, was born on 6 February 1968, in Farmville, Virginia. Growing up in a modest environment, she developed a passion for hip-hop music early on. She is celebrated as one of the fiercest female MCs in hip-hop history, having begun her career in the late 1980s, performing in local talent shows and gaining a reputation for her fierce delivery and lyrical prowess. Lady of Rage's big break came when she was discovered by Dr. Dre and signed to Death Row Records in the early 1990s. She made her first major appearance on Dr. Dre's groundbreaking album, The Chronic (1992), where her standout verse on "Lyrical Gangbang" showcased her formidable talent. This exposure paved the way for her notable feature on Snoop Dogg's debut album, Doggystyle (1993), where her aggressive flow on the track "G Funk Intro" solidified her place in the rap scene. In 1994, Lady of Rage released her debut single, "Afro Puffs," which became an instant hit and a defining track of her career. The single, produced by Dr. Dre, highlighted her signature style and powerful presence, reaching the top of the rap charts and becoming an anthem of the era. Despite the success of her singles, her much-anticipated debut album, Necessary Roughness, was delayed and eventually released in 1997. The album received critical acclaim but did not achieve the commercial success it deserved, partly due to the turmoil within Death Row Records at the time. In addition to her music career, Lady of Rage transitioned into acting. She appeared in several films and television shows, most notably playing the recurring role of Coretta Cox on the sitcom The Steve Harvey Show from 1997 to 2000. She continued to work on her music career throughout the 21st century, signing to Shante Broadus's label, Boss Lady Entertainment, in 2007 and later making appearances on releases like MC Eiht's 2017 album Which Way Iz West in 2017. She made her return to music in 2024 with a guest appearance on Tha Dogg Pound track "Who Da Hardest?" with RBX.
