Silentium, a Finnish gothic metal band, was formed in Jämsänkoski in 1995 by keyboardist Sami Boman and vocalist Matti Aikio. The band's first recording was the EP Illacrimó, released in 1996. In 1998, they released another EP, Caméne Misera. This caught the attention of Thy Serpent guitarist Sami Tenetz, leading to a deal with his record label Spikefarm. Silentium's debut full-length album, Infinita Plango Vulnera, was released in 1999 and marked Spikefarm’s first CD release. The band's third full-length album, Sufferion - Hamartia of Prudence, was released in 2003 with Tuomas Holopainen as producer. Vocalist Tiina Lehvonen left the band during production. They released the album Seducia in 2006. The addition of singer Riina Rinkinen in 2006 was well-received by critics.
