Following years of classical piano training and American literature studies (Paris, France), Cecil L. Recchia entered the world of jazz at the Paris CIM, institute for contemporary music and jazz. She then continued to develop her jazz acumen in master classes conducted by such jazz legends as Bob Stoloff or Barry Harris. Cecil L. Recchia is a regular on the Paris jazz scene and pursues a singing career in a variety of jazz music ensembles. With her partner in crime, drummer David Grebil, she has produced three albums. Songs of the Tree (2015) , a tribute to Pittsburgh's piano legend Ahmad Jamal; The Gumbo ( 2018) an ode to the particular rhythms and composers of New Orleans, which was unanimously welcomed by critics and acclaimed in major jazz venues and festivals. Play Blue ( 2021) a vocal rendition with brand new arrangements of instrumental tunes which historically marked the great years of the legendary jazz label Blue Note. Cecil wrote all the lyrics (except on Moanin’ - Jon Hendricks). This broadly acclaimed record led Cecil to be mentioned among the 5 main French vocal jazz artists of the year in 2021 and to be a finalist for Best Jazz Singer of the year next to Samara Joy and Veronica Swift (French Academie du Jazz, 2021). Cecil keeps pushing through the exploration around rhythmic diversity, taking a path barely – if not, never – explored vocally. Her fourth album "Sings Django" will be out in January 2026.
