Barcelona, an American indie rock band from Seattle, Washington, formed in 2005. The group, initially a solo project by Brian Fennell, evolved into a full band after Fennell collaborated with his musically inclined friends. Their debut album Absolutes was independently released in 2007, through their own label NBD Music. The album received favorable reviews and included the track "Please Don't Go", which later appeared in the trailer for the film Water for Elephants. In December 2008, Barcelona signed with Universal Records, leading to a remastered version of Absolutes released on April 28, 2009. Following their departure from the label, Barcelona continued releasing music independently, including the EPs Love Me, Love You, and Know Love collectively titled The Melodrama in 2014. Their third full-length album, Basic Man, was released in 2016.
