Mouth Music, a Scottish-inspired musical project founded in 1988, was initially an equal collaboration between Martin Swan and Talitha MacKenzie. The project blended traditional Gaelic songs with contemporary instrumental and technological settings, achieving international fame in the early 1990s. Their debut album Mouth Music, released in 1990, topped the Billboard Top World Music Albums chart and received critical acclaim, including listings in Folk Roots magazine's Albums Of The Year and Q Magazine's Recommended Releases of 1990. Following a split between Swan and MacKenzie in June 1991, the group continued with various musicians under Swan's leadership. Notable releases include Mo-Di (1993), Shorelife (1994), and Seafaring Man (2001). Mouth Music is recognized as an early Afro-Celtic music project, influencing later works like the Afro-Celt Sound System.
