Oscar Marcelo Alemán, born on February 20, 1909, in Machagai, Chaco Province, Argentina, was a jazz multi-instrumentalist, guitarist, singer, and dancer. He joined his family ensemble at six, playing the cavaquinho before transitioning to guitar. Alemán's professional career began with the duo Los Lobos in Brazil, later moving to Buenos Aires where they formed a trio with violinist Elvino Vardaro. In 1929, he traveled to Europe, staying in Madrid as a soloist before moving to Paris and leading Josephine Baker's band at the Cafe de Paris. During World War II, Alemán returned to Argentina, establishing a residency at the Alvear Palace Hotel and achieving success with "Rosa Madreselva". He continued performing until his death on October 14, 1980. Notable posthumous recognitions include the documentary Oscar Aleman: Vida Con Swing (2002) and the Festival Oscar Alemán, an international jazz guitar festival created in his honor.
