Paul Vidal, born on June 16, 1863, in Toulouse, France, was a French composer. He studied at the Conservatoire de Toulouse and later at the Conservatoire de Paris, where he won first prizes in harmony, counterpoint, and fugue. In 1883, Vidal secured the Grand Prix de Rome for his cantata "Le Gladiateur". He joined the Opéra as sous-chef des chœurs in 1889 and became a director of chant in 1892. He also composed the opérette Éros (1892) and orchestrated Benjamin Godard's unfinished opera La Vivandière. Vidal's notable works include ballets such as La Maladetta (1893) and operas, Guernica (1895). In 1906, he was a chef d'orchestre at the Opéra. He also composed the opera Ramses in 1908. From 1914 to 1919, he served as the director of music at the Opéra-Comique. Vidal passed away on April 9, 1931, in Paris.
