Twennynine, an American R&B group founded in 1979 by jazz fusion drummer Lenny White after leaving Return to Forever, focused on commercial funk and R&B. White assembled a core lineup that included keyboardist Skip Anderson, bassist Barry Johnson, guitarist Eddie Martinez, and rotating vocalists such as Lynn Davis and Carla Vaughn. The debut album Best of Friends was released on Elektra Records in 1979, produced by Lenny White and Larry Dunn of Earth, Wind & Fire, and reached number 15 on the Billboard Top R&B Albums chart; the single "Peanut Butter" peaked at number 3. In 1980 the group issued Twennynine with Lenny White, again produced by Lenny White and Larry Dunn, which climbed to Number 22 on the Top R&B Albums chart; singles "Kid Stuff" and "Fancy Dancer" charted at number 19 on the Hot R&B Singles chart and number 17 on the Dance/Disco chart. The third studio effort, Just Like Dreamin', added guitarist Steve Horton and reached number 41 on the Top R&B Albums chart; featuring singles "Didn't Know About Love (Till I Found You)", "All I Want" and "My Turn to Love You". Twennynine disbanded in 1983, after which Lenny White returned to jazz session work.
