Stargard is an American girl group formed in 1976, consisting of Rochelle Runnells, Debra Anderson, and Janice Williams. Their breakthrough came with the Norman Whitfield-penned "Theme Song from 'Which Way Is Up'", featured on the soundtrack of the 1977 film Which Way Is Up? This track was included on their self-titled debut album, released in 1978 on MCA Records, which peaked at number 12 on the Top R&B Albums chart and number 26 on the Billboard 200. As a single, "Theme Song from 'Which Way Is Up'" reached Number 1 on Billboard's Hot R&B Songs chart. In 1978, Stargard released their second album What You Waitin' For, with the title track reaching number 4 on Hot Soul Songs. The group then moved to Warner Bros. Records and issued their third LP, The Changing of the Gard, in 1979, co-produced by Verdine White of Earth, Wind & Fire. Following Anderson's departure after The Changing of the Gard, Williams and Runnells released their fourth album, Back 2 Back, in 1980. They returned to MCA Records for their fifth LP, Nine Lives, in 1982. Stargard appeared as 'The Diamonds' in the 1978 film Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Rochelle Runnells passed away in 2012.
