Gerardo Nieto, born Gerardo Lirio Nieto Cabrera on April 27, 1969, in Montevideo, Uruguay, began his musical path in local carnival groups such as Los Carlitos before joining bands Sonora Caribe, Karibe con K, and La Autentika. His professional breakthrough came with the release of the single "Sortilegio de Luna" in 2018, followed by "A Mi Tambíen" and "Cuando Alguien Me Nombre" the same year, establishing his presence in the Uruguayan plena scene. In 2004, he issued the album Punto G, and in 2013 followed with Polvo de Estrellas, both under local independent labels; the latter was later re‑recorded in 2019 with Papina de Palma for a promotional video. Gerardo Nieto’s career included appearances on the 2021 season of MasterChef Celebrity Uruguay and performances at the 2020 Carnival with Los Muchachos. In 2025, he leaned into collaborative formats and nostalgia-driven medleys, releasing projects like SESSIONS 25 and La Mesa De Gerardo, then closing the year with “Magia / Cuando Alguien Me Nombre / Ojitos de Miel,” a single-length suite recorded with Juanjo Morgade that bundled three fan favorites into one contemporary release; he is active as a live and recording artist.
