Frank Tiberi, born December 4, 1928 in Camden, New Jersey, is an American saxophonist who began performing and recording at the age of thirteen. He started his career touring with Benny Goodman and Urbie Green, and played with Dizzy Gillespie. In the late 1960s, Tiberi worked as a studio musician before being hired by Woody Herman in 1969 to serve as lead saxophone soloist for the Woody Herman Orchestra. He took over leadership of the band following Herman's death in 1987 and has continued to lead it since then. Tiberi plays multiple instruments including alto and tenor saxophone, bassoon, clarinet, and flute. He has released several albums, including 4 Brothers 7 (2007), and collaborated with fellow Berklee instructor George Garzone. Tiberi also became a professor at the Berklee College of Music, where he taught improvisational techniques and pedagogy, and served as director for the Camden Jazz Festival in New Jersey.
