Álvaro Genaro Carrillo Alarcón, known professionally as Álvaro Carrillo, was born on December 2, 1919, in Cacahuatepec, Oaxaca, Mexico. He began composing songs like "Celia" and "La amuzgueña" while studying at the San Pedro Amuzgos Indigenous Agricultural Boarding School. Carrillo graduated from the National School of Agriculture in 1945 with a degree in agronomy. His passion for music led him to compose over 300 songs, including the iconic bolero "Sabor a mí". He collaborated with various artists and performed on radio, television, and theater. Carrillo passed away on April 3, 1969, in Mexico City. He can be heard on several posthumous compilations, including Los Creadores Del Bolero Moderno (1992) and Los Grandes de la Musica en Mexico (1996).
