Jeffrey Lee Sipe, known as Jeff Sipe, was born on January 31, 1959, in Berlin, Germany, and was a drummer. He began his career working mainly in rock and jazz fusion genres. One of his earliest notable projects was founding Aquarium Rescue Unit with Bruce Hampton. In 1992, he released Col. Bruce Hampton & the Aquarium Rescue Unit as part of this group. Sipe also contributed to Leftover Salmon and the Zambiland Orchestra, an experimental big band featuring members of Phish and Widespread Panic. He collaborated extensively with artists such as Trey Anastasio, Jeff Coffin, Jimmy Herring, Warren Haynes, Keller Williams, John McLaughlin, and Shawn Lane. Notable releases included Art of the Jam (2005) and Timeless (2006).
