Slow Gherkin, an American ska punk band from Santa Cruz, California, formed in 1993. Inspired by groups like The Mighty Mighty Bosstones and Operation Ivy, Slow Gherkin began their career with a split CD EP alongside the Jeffries Fan Club in 1996, followed by a 7" titled Death of a Salesman. Their debut album, Double Happiness, was released on July 25th, 1997 through Asian Man Records. The band's lineup evolved over time, eventually including James Rickman (vocals, guitar), AJ Marquez (vocals, guitar), Zack Kent (bass), Zack Olson (drums), Phil Boutelle (alto saxophone), Ross Peard (tenor saxophone), Matt Porter (trombone), and Peter Cowan (keyboards). Their second album, Shed Some Skin, was released in October 1998. In 2002, the band disbanded following the death of Zack Kent on August 17th. Posthumously, Asian Man Records released a compilation titled Death Of A Ska Band: Rarities 1994-2002 in June 2011, featuring previously unreleased tracks.
