Florian Hecker is a German sound artist and composer who was born in Augsburg, Germany, in 1975. He achieved early professional recognition in 1998 with the release of his debut solo studio recording and is famous for his work in electro-acoustic composition and for his UPIC Diffusion Sessions with Russell Haswell. Hecker studied fine arts at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Vienna and utilizes computer systems including SuperCollider for sound synthesis. His discography includes the studio recordings IT iso 161975 (1998), [R] iso|chall (2000), and Sun Pandämonium (2003), the latter of which received an award at the Ars Electronica festival. He also released the collaborative recording Palimpsest (2004) with Yasunao Tone and the studio recording Acid in the Style of David Tudor (2009). Hecker’s work has been featured at venues including the Centre Georges Pompidou and the Tate Modern, and in 2012 he exhibited Chimerization at Documenta 13.
