The Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, an orchestra based in France, was established at the beginning of the 19th century to support opera seasons at the Théâtre du Capitole. Initially functioning as a theater orchestra, it transitioned into a symphonic ensemble post-1945 under conductors such as Gaston Poulet and Michel Plasson. The orchestra's development accelerated with Plasson’s arrival in 1968; he led significant tours, recorded extensively for EMI, and collaborated with notable artists like Barbara Hendricks and José Carreras. Under his direction, the orchestra achieved national recognition, receiving a label from the Minister of Culture in 1980. Following Plasson's departure in 2003, Tugan Sokhiev took over as musical director in 2008, expanding the repertoire to include more Russian music. The orchestra has released numerous albums including Durufle : Requiem - Messe (cum Jubilo) (1999) and Satie: Gymnopédies 1&3; Gnossienne No.3 Etc. (2006).
