Jennie Tourel, born Jennie Davidovich on June 22, 1900, in Vitebsk, Russian Empire, was a mezzo-soprano singer renowned for her operatic and recital performances. She initially studied piano and flute before transitioning to singing under Anna El-Tour in Paris. Tourel made her debut at the Opéra russe de Paris in 1931 and performed notable roles such as Carmen and Mignon at the Opéra-Comique. Her international career included engagements with the New York City Opera and collaborations with conductors like Toscanini and Koussevitzky on works including "Roméo et Juliette" and Alexander Nevsky. Tourel's notable roles at the Metropolitan Opera included Rosine, Adalgisa, and Carmen. She was naturalized as an American citizen in 1946. Her final operatic role was Doña Marta in Thomas Pasatieri's Black Widow at the Seattle Opera in 1972. She passed away on November 23, 1973.
