Boris Timofeyevich Shtokolov, born on March 19, 1930, in Kuzedeyevo, Gorno-Shorsky District of Kuznetsk Okrug in Siberian Krai (now Novokuznetsky District of Kemerovo Oblast), was a Russian singer known for his bass vocals. He entered the Ural State Conservatory in Sverdlovsk in 1949 and began singing at the Sverdlovsk Philharmonic Society before becoming a soloist at the Sverdlovsk Opera and Ballet Theater. In 1959, he joined the Kirov Theater in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg), where he gained international recognition as a leading soloist until 1989. Shtokolov performed numerous roles including Ruslan, Don Basilio, Boris Godunov, and Ivan Susanin. His discography includes albums such as Русские Песни И Романсы (1966) and Russian Opera Arias & Romances (1968). He received numerous honors including People's Artist of the USSR (1966), USSR State Prize (1981), and Order of Lenin (1980). Shtokolov died on January 6, 2005.
