Steinar Sønk Nickelsen (born October 5, 1978, in Oslo) is a Norwegian jazz organist, pianist, and composer. Nickelsen gained prominence in 2002 after receiving the Young jazz musician of the year award at Moldejazz with the band Solid!. That same year, Nickelsen collaborated with Pål Thowsen and Jon Eberson on the album ...the Rest Is Rumours. He attended Trondheim Musikkonservatorium and the Norwegian Academy of Music before pursuing further studies at the IACP in Paris and the Rhythm Conservatory in Copenhagen. Nickelsen performed with the Trondheim Jazz Orchestra and recorded with Pat Metheny. His discography includes the albums Excess Luggage (2007) and Hand Luggage Only (2011) with the trio Excess Luggage. Nickelsen also performed with the Nickelsen Trio, featuring Ari Hoenig and Lage Lund, and the ensembles Jupiter and Peloton.
