Known for his freewheeling approach to music production, British DJ Al Dobson Jr. stole the spotlight with his forward-thinking melange of hip-hop, house, and jazz with world music. A Bristol native, Dobson grew up in a music-loving household and developed a taste for obscure cuts through his parents’ record collection. He relocated to South London in 2009 with a couple of childhood friends and made the rounds in Peckham’s thriving club circuit before making his debut as a producer with a split single alongside Tenderlonious in 2013. Rye Lane Vol. 1, his official studio debut, arrived in 2014 via Rhythm Section International and was followed by Sounds from the Village Vol.1, released that same year through IZWID Records. In subsequent years, Dobson Jr. strengthened his ties with Bradley Zero’s Rhythm Section International with the release of Rye Lane Volume II & III in 2016 and produced another LP for IZWID under the name Sounds from the Village, Vol. 2, issued in 2019.
