Maridalia Hernández Morel is a Dominican singer and one of the founders of the group 440. She began her musical studies at age 10 at the José Ovidio García Music School in Santiago de los Caballeros and earned her degree in Music Education from the Dominican Academy of Music. Hernández's breakthrough came in 1981 with her performance in Sonido Para una Imagen. In 1982, she performed as María Magdalena in the opera rock Jesucristo Superestrella and released her first recital, Con y Sin Nostalgia. From 1983 to 1988, Hernández was the lead soloist of 440. In 1986, she won 1st place at the Festival de Viña del Mar in Chile with "Para Quererte" and received multiple awards that same year, including El Dorado, Casandra, and El Soberano. She has performed at prestigious venues like the Centro John F. Kennedy for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C., and the Teatro Apollo and Lincoln Center in New York.
