Hervé Joulain, born in 1966 in Saint-Romans-lès-Melle, France, is a French horn player. At the age of 20, he became the principal hornist of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France under Marek Janowski's direction and subsequently performed with conductors such as Leonard Bernstein, Zubin Mehta, and Pierre Boulez. A decade later, Joulain was appointed to the same position at the Orchestre National de France under Charles Dutoit. He also served as principal hornist for Lorin Maazel in the Filarmonica Toscanini in Parma. Throughout his career, Joulain recorded about twenty CDs and collaborated with notable musicians including Paul Tortelier, Yuri Bashmet, and Pinchas Zukerman. He taught at the Conservatoire de Paris and conducted masterclasses across France, Brazil, the Czech Republic, Canada, and Finland.
