Martin Siewert is a German jazz, avant-garde, and electronic guitarist and film composer born on May 11, 1972, in Saarbrücken. After moving to Vienna at age ten, Siewert studied guitar at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz. He began performing publicly in 1995 with Herwig Gradischnig and Franz Hautzinger, and recorded two albums with the band Duckbilled Platypus. Siewert developed an abstract sound, joining the groups Efzeg, SSSD, and Komfort, the latter of which featured Wayne Horvitz and Tony Buck. He is a member of the trio Radian and the group Trapist. Siewert’s discography includes the albums Komfort 2000 (1999), Too Beautiful to Burn (2003), No Need to Be Lonesome (2004), and The Peeled Eye (2016). He has composed for theater, ballet, and film, and collaborated with artists including Christian Fennesz, Elliott Sharp, and Ken Vandermark.
