Born in Florence, Italy on July 20, 1961, Susanna Parigi was an acclaimed pop singer, songwriter, and pianist. She originally learned piano at the Cherubini Conservatory in Florence before she studied singing in Rome and then opera in Bologna, and jazz in Milan. She began writing and recording music before being discovered by record producer Vincenzo Micocci, who signed her to his IT label. Susanna Parigi released her debut single, “Un anello di fumo,” in 1987, which had won her first prize on the talent show La fabbrica dei sogni. She then began touring as a pianist, vocalist, and accordion player for several artists before releasing her self-titled debut album in 1995. One her second album, Scomposta (1999), she began a long songwriting partnership with Italian singer/songwriter Kaballà (Giuseppe ‘Pippo’ Rinaldi). The song “Tre passi indietro” won her several awards at the International Festival of Songwriting including first prize and an award for Best Competition. Five years later, she released her third album, In differenze (2004), which included collaborations with guitarist Pat Metheny, bassist Tony Levin, and the Sofia Symphonic Orchestra. In 2009, Susanna Parigi issued her fourth album, L’insulto delle parole, which featured musical assistance from the Arkè String Quartet. Further albums included La Lingua Segreta Delle Donne (2011), II Saltimbanco E La Luna (2014), and Apnea (2014). She also spent time teaching at the Bonporti Conservatory of Trenton, Italy. Susanna Parigi died after a long illness on December 17, 2023, at the age of 62.
