Edgar Knecht, born on January 4, 1964 in Winterberg, Germany, is a German pianist and composer. He received classical training in piano with Hellmuth Vivell and flute with Eleonore Kluge, performing his own compositions from an early age. Knecht furthered his studies under Wolfgang Köhler, Jorge Guarin, and Klaus Ignatzek.
Knecht's debut album Good Morning Lilofee (2009) showcased his unique arrangements of folk songs. His second album, Dance on Deep Waters, reached the top 30 of the German jazz charts in 2013. In 2017, his project Keys to Friendship with Syrian musician Aeham Ahmad won the Creole Festivalpreis for Best World Music from Germany and was longlisted for the Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik. Knecht's album Personal Sessions, released in 2019, was recognized as Jazz Album of the Week.
