Spektrum is a London‑based house act formed in 1999 by Gabriel Olegavich and Lola Olafisoye, who began collaborating on songwriting and production after meeting in their hometown of England; Gabriel Olegavich handled synthesizer, programming and vocals while Lola Olafisoye contributed vocals, and the group later expanded with drummer Isaac Tucker and bassist Teia Williams. Their first single, "Breaker", was released on their own label in August 2001 and received airplay from Gilles Peterson, followed by "Freakbox" in March 2002, which attracted remixes from Richie Hawtin, Ricardo Villalobos and Alter Ego. The group’s breakthrough came in 2004 with the single "Kinda New", which reached Number 70 on the UK Singles Chart and later topped the UK Dance Charts after a 2007 remix by Dirty South, and that same year they issued their debut album Enter the Spektrum. Subsequent releases included the 2006 album Fun At The Gymkhana Club, the single "Horny Pony", and other singles such as "Hotsteppa" (2008); the 2010 album I've Done It Now marked a stylistic shift toward broader electronic influences.
