Józef Kazimierz Hofmann, also known as Józef Hofmann, born on January 20, 1876, in Kraków, Poland, was a pianist and composer. At age five, he gave his first recital with his father assisting him by operating the pedals. By ten, he embarked on European tours, gaining significant success. In 1887-1888, he performed in America, impressing audiences with his improvisational skills. His tour was cut short due to intervention by the American Society for the Protection of Children, but he received financial support to study under Moritz Moszkowski and Anton Rubinstein. At age 18, he resumed performing publicly, becoming one of the most sought-after soloists worldwide. In 1914, he moved to the United States and became a citizen. From 1924 to 1938, Józef Kazimierz Hofmann served as director of the piano department at the Curtis Institute of Music. He continued performing until the 1940s, with his last concert in 1946.
