Stars in Battledress, an English musical duo consisting of brothers Richard Larcombe and James Larcombe, hail from Plymouth, Devon. The duo's complex compositions blend folk music sources with British and American art rock influences. Their early collaborations began in the 1990s when Richard formed Magnilda, a rock band that produced one cassette demo, Clocks Are Like People. After Magnilda disbanded, Stars in Battledress was formed in 1999 following James' move to London. Their debut album, Secrets and Signals, released in 2003, received favorable reviews for its intricate and allusive lyrics and theatrical flair. The duo's second album, In Droplet Form, followed in 2014. Stars in Battledress have ties to other bands including North Sea Radio Orchestra, Cardiacs, and The Monsoon Bassoon.
