Andrew “Tiny” Wood, born in 1996 in the United States, is the lead vocalist, guitarist, and keyboardist of the alternative rock group Ultrasound. Wood’s musical path began in the late 1980s with experimental projects that evolved into the psychedelic‑rock outfit Sleepy People, and later into Pop‑A‑Cat‑A‑Petal, which renamed itself Ultrasound in 1996. The band’s breakthrough came with the single "Same Band" released on Fierce Panda in 1997, gaining attention from NME and leading to a contract with Nude Records. Ultrasound’s debut single "Best Wishes" (1998) entered the UK Singles Chart at Number Thirty, and the follow‑up "Stay Young" peaked at Number Thirty‑Nine. Their first album, Everything Picture (1999), reached Number Twenty‑Three on the UK Albums Chart despite mixed reviews. After a 1999 split, the group reformed in 2010, issuing the single "Welfare State / Sovereign" (2011) and the album Play for Today (2012). A subsequent release, Real Britannia (2016), received four‑star reviews in Mojo, Uncut, Q, and Prog Magazine. Ultrasound’s career has been marked by consistent touring, a dedicated fan base, and a legacy of blending progressive and glam influences within the American alternative rock scene.
