Ödön Rácz, born September 6, 1981, in Budapest, Hungary, is a distinguished double bass player. From a musical family, he began his training at nine and later studied with Alois Posch. Rácz won several competitions, including the Hungarian Television Competition in 1996 and the International Johann-Prunner Competition in Bucharest in 2002. He joined the Vienna State Opera Orchestra in 2004 and became the solo double bass player for both the Vienna Philharmonic and the Vienna State Opera Orchestra in 2009. Rácz gained international recognition for his performance of "Hummelflug" by Rimsky-Korsakov during the intermission of the globally broadcasted New Year's Concert 2012 of the Vienna Philharmonic. He is a member of The Philharmonics and Philharmonix ensembles and has released notable albums including Concertos for Double Bass (2016) with the Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra.
