Tricky Woo, a Canadian garage punk band from Montreal, was formed in 1996 by Andrew Dickson, Sasha Roiz, and Jon Fazakerley. The group released their debut album, Rock and Roll Music Part One, in 1997 on VICE Magazine's SSG Records. Adrian Popovich joined as a second guitarist for the follow-up album, The Enemy is Real (1998), with Eric Larock taking over bass duties. Patrick Conan replaced Roiz on drums for the critically acclaimed third album Sometimes I Cry (1999). Tricky Woo performed in Toronto with Danko Jones and The New Meanies in 1999, and their album Sometimes I Cry was nominated for Best Alternative Album at the Juno Awards of 2000. Their song "Easy" was featured in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer episode "The Zeppo." After releasing several albums and EPs, including Les Sables Magiques in 2001, Tricky Woo disbanded in 2002.
