Septeto Habanero is a foundational Cuban son ensemble established in 1920 in Havana, where they originally performed as Sexteto Típico Oriental. The group gained early acclaim when they won first prize in the Concurso de Sones in 1925 and 1926. After the group recorded various influential tracks between 1925 and 1931 with members such as Gerardo Martínez and Guillermo Castillo, the ensemble transitioned into a septet in 1927 with the addition of cornetist Enrique Hernández. While the group underwent several lineup and name variations throughout the 20th century, they officially solidified the name Septeto Habanero in 1983. Their discography included releases such as Son Cubano (1991), 75 Años Después (1995), and the 90th-anniversary celebratory album 90 Años: Orgullo de los Soneros (2010).
