Conjunto Casino, a notable Cuban music group, was founded by brothers José and Manolo Saldarino in Havana around 1933. Initially known as Sexteto Miquito, they became the house band at Summer Casino in Marianao, Havana. The ensemble blended jazz harmonies with traditional Cuban music. In 1940, Esteban Grau took over as director, and key members like Cristóbal Dobal and Roberto Espí joined, leading to significant changes including a name change to Conjunto Casino. Their first recordings for RCA Victor in 1942 marked their breakthrough. The group's lineup evolved with notable vocalists such as Roberto Faz, Nelo Sosa, and Agustín Ribot. They recorded extensively for labels like Panart and performed at venues like the Zombie Club and Sans Soucí cabaret in Mexico. Their influence on Cuban music remains enduring, with recordings remaining popular and culturally significant.
