Yoon Sang is a South Korean solo artist, producer, composer, and music professor who received multiple awards for his self-titled debut album during the early 1990s. He was born "Lee Yoon-sang" on May 11, 1968, in Seoul, South Korea. A multi-instrumentalist, he began career player as a backup musician, playing bass for the K-pop singer Kim Wan-sun before signing with Jigu Records as a solo artist. His first album, Yoon Sang, was released to commercial acclaim in 1990, featuring a synth-pop sound that earned Sang the title of "Rookie of the Year" from the Golden Disc Awards. Yoon Sang 2 Part 1 appeared in 1992, sold one million copies, and received the "Album Bonsang" award at the Golden Disc ceremony that same year. It was followed by a companion album, Yoon Sang 2 Part 2, in 1993. Yoon Sang's music grew increasingly experimental as the 1990s progressed. His 1996 release, Renacimiento, featured rerecorded versions of his older songs, albeit with new lyrics in English, French, and Italian. 2000's Cliche reached number 20 on South Korea's MIAK chart, and 2003's There Is A Man… made room for new influences, including rap, electronica, and Latin music. Released in 2009, I Didn't Know Yet continued his exploration of electronic music and received a nomination of "Best Dance & Electronic Album" at the 2010 Korean Music Awards. Although Yoon Sang spent much of the 2010s appearing on TV shows like Phantom Singer and King of Mask Singer, he continued recording new music, too, even returning to the charts in 2023 with the Top 30 album Cliché.
