Sweet Sorrow is a South Korean male vocal group that originated in 2002. Initially, the group was a quartet made up of In Ho-jin, Song Woo-jin, Sung Jin-hwan, and pianist Kim Young-woo. These four members initially met around 1996 as students at Yonsei University, joining the university's glee club. Forming an eight-member a cappella group with a few other friends, they eventually decided to pursue music professionally, debuting as Sweet Sorrow in 2002. The group gained national recognition after winning the Daesang (Grand Prize) at the 16th Yoo Jae-ha Music Competition with their song "Sweet Sorrow." They were then signed by Mezoo Cultures and released their eponymous first album in 2005. The group became even more popular after performing soundtracks for TV dramas and appearing on the MBC's Show Survival and KBS's Immortal Songs: Singing the Legend. Over the years, Sweet Sorrow released notable albums such as Sweetics in 2008, which peaked at number 5, and Viva in 2012, which reached number 8 on South Korea's Circle Chart. Also in 2012, they were given the Excellence Award in Radio at the MBC Entertainment Awards. In 2017, Sung Jin-hwan announced a hiatus due to health issues and eventually left the group. The remaining trio made a comeback in 2019 with a new album and collaborated with female vocal group The Barberettes to form the new group SBSB.
