Sophie Marcella Cates, known professionally as Silver Sphere, was born on September 26, 1999 in the United States and is a singer-songwriter. She began her music career at age 18 while studying at Columbia College, independently releasing her debut single "Drinking Games" under the stage name Silver Sphere in 2018. This was followed by other singles including "Boys in Bands" and "Sucks 4 U." On October 2, 2019, she released her debut album Yikes! independently. The release of Yikes! led to Cates being signed by RCA Records. She released her first EP under the label, All My Boyfriends, in 2020. In 2022, she self-released her second EP, Basement Party. In 2024, Cates released her album, SUPERNOVA, which is thematically focused on her breakup with fellow singer-songwriter Lauv.
