Charli xcx

Born in Cambridge, UK, on August 2, 1992, to a father of Scottish origin and an Indian mother born in Uganda, Charlotte Emma Aitchison took the stage name Charli XCX and recorded a first independent album, 14 (2008), which remained confidential. A product of the English electronic rave party scene, she released two mixtapes and shot to fame in 2012 with her contribution to the number-one hit "I Love It" by the duo Icona Pop. The following year saw the release of the album True Romance (No. 85), which met with critical acclaim. In 2014, Charli XCX made a name for herself with her contribution to Iggy Azalea's US number-one hit "Fancy", and enjoyed personal success with the track "Boom Clap" (No. 6), included on the soundtrack to the film Our Opposite Stars. The album Sucker released at the end of the year reached #15 in the UK and #28 in the US, while the single "Doing It", featuring Rita Ora, reached #8. In 2016, the Vroom Vroom EP follows (#2 on the US dance chart). Two new mixtapes, Number 1 Angel and Pop 2, precede the trio single "Girls" (2018), with Rita Ora and Bebe Rexha. Charli XCX returns to the studio for the album Charli (No. 14 in 2019), featuring BTS, Lizzo, Troye Sivan and Christine and the Queens. Her fourth album, How I'm Feeling Now (2020), recorded in quarantine during the Covid-19 pandemic, reaches No. 33 in the UK, with none of the singles reaching a significant position. Her best commercial performance came in 2022 with the album Crash , which gave her her first UK No.1 album, as well as in Australia, while reaching No.7 in the USA. Highlights include the singles "New Shapes", with Christine and the Queens and Caroline Polachek, and "Beg for You" with Rina Sawayama. As well as appearing on the soundtracks to the films Bodies, Bodies, Bodies and Barbie and Bottoms , she duets with Sam Smith on "In the City" (2023). The year 2024 proved to be a fruitful one, with the release of the critically and publicly acclaimed album Brat(No. 2 in the UK, No. 3 in the USA). Its reissue, with new remixes and singles Brat and It's Completely Different But Also Still Brat, features a long list of guests including Billie Eilish, Lorde, Ariana Grande, Troye Sivan, Robyn, Yung Lean, The 1975 and Jon Hopkins, Bon Iver, Tinashe, Julian Casablancas, The Japanese House and Shygirl. In 2025, she collaborated with John Cale on "House", the first single from the soundtrack to the film Wuthering Heights, which reached No. 1 in the UK and No. 8 on the Billboard 200 upon its release.
