Hussein El Masry, born in Cairo, Egypt, in 1952, was an oud player. He graduated from the Higher Institute of Arabic Music in Cairo in 1975, studying under masters such as Yousef Elsisi and Chaban Abo Alsad. In 1977, El Masry moved to Paris to expand his musical horizons. His breakthrough came in 1980 with a solo oud recital in Cairo. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, he released several albums, including Ra'etak (1992) and Nomade (1997). In 1994, his concerto for oud and orchestra, conducted by Jean-Jacques Werner, premiered on France Musique at the Maison de Radio France.
