Henri Guédon, born May 22, 1944, in Fort-de-France, Martinique, was a Martiniquais musician known for his contributions to Latin and world music. He formed the group La Contesta early in his career. In 1964, Guédon moved to Paris and participated in jazz fusion concerts. He pioneered the modernization of Afro-Cuban music, creating the first Big Band Jazz Caraïbes in 1970 with Daniel Barda. Notable works include the album Cosmo Zouk (1972) and collaborations with artists such as Barry Rogers and Arturo Sandoval. In 1983, he received the Prix de l'Académie Charles Cros for his musical storytelling based on Antillean traditions. Guédon passed away on February 12, 2006, in Paris.
