Guadalupe Victoria Yolí Raymond, known as La Lupe, was born on December 23, 1936 in Santiago de Cuba. She began her musical career after completing a teaching degree, performing in Havana venues with her first husband, Eulogio "Yoyo" Reyes, forming the Trío Tropicuba. In 1959, they started performing at La Red bar. After relocating to New York City, she collaborated with Tito Puente, releasing successful albums including La Lupe Is Back (1961) and Queen Of Latin Soul / Reina De La Cancion Latina (1968). Her energetic performances made her a prominent figure in the Latin music scene. However, her career faced challenges due to personal issues and industry shifts, notably the rise of Celia Cruz with Fania Records. Despite efforts to revive her career, including the album La Pareja (2011), La Lupe struggled financially and retired from performing in 1980. She passed away on February 29, 1992.
