Maren Whitney Ord is a Canadian singer-songwriter of rock and pop music. Raised in a large musical family, she learned piano from her mother and taught herself guitar at a young age. Her early career breakthrough came in 1998 after a Lilith Fair audition, where she met Nettwerk Music Group executive Terry McBride, who later became her manager and helped guide her early professional development. She subsequently gained wider attention through recordings and performances tied to Nettwerk’s artist development pipeline. Ord released her debut album Waiting in 2001. The album included singles such as “Sarah” and “Perfect,” with the latter also appearing on the soundtrack of the film Crazy/Beautiful. Additionally, she received a Juno Award nomination for Best New Artist during this period. She later released the EP Not Today in 2004, followed by Pretty Things in 2006.
