Iļģi, a Latvian folk rock band, was formed on April 21, 1981. Initially focusing on traditional folk music, Iļģi evolved into a folk rock group, becoming a leader in the genre in Latvia. Their album Rāmi, rāmi (1993) showcased their creative direction with slow and meditative tracks. In 1998, Saules meita, released within a pop and rock music context, expanded their audience. Iļģi received the Latvian Music Record Award for Best Contemporary Latvian Music Album five times. Their early recordings were also compiled in their first double-album Agrie gadi (2002). The group celebrated their 30th anniversary with a concert at Palladium Concert Hall in Riga on December 3, 2011, and released a compilation that year featuring tracks from Sēju vēju (2000), Kaza kāpa debesīs (2003), Ne uz vienu dienu (2006), Ej tu dejot! (2008) and Īsākās nakts dziesmas (2009).
