Uģis Prauliņš, born on June 17, 1957 in Riga, Latvia, is a composer known for his diverse musical contributions. He began his musical education at the Emīls Dārziņš Music School from 1963 to 1974 and later studied conducting, pedagogy, composition, and piano at the Latvian Academy of Music. Prauliņš' early career included performances as a keyboardist in progressive rock groups Salve and Vecās mājas during the 1970s and 1980s.
Prauliņš released his album Odi Et Amo in 1999, followed by Pagānu gadagrāmata (Pagan Yearbook) with the band Iļģi. His choral work "Missa Rigensis" (Riga Mass), recorded by the Choir of Trinity College, Cambridge and the Riga Cathedral Boys Choir, gained international recognition after its release on Baltic Recordings in 2008. Prauliņš' composition "The Nightingale", based on Hans Christian Andersen's fairytale, was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2013, in the "Best Contemporary Composition" and "Best Choral Performance" categories.
