Yevgeny Grigorievich Martynov was born on May 22, 1948, in Kamyshin, Volgograd Oblast, Russian Federation. He graduated from the Donetsk Music and Pedagogical Institute in 1971. In 1972, while working as a composer in Moscow, Martynov composed "Birch" to Sergey Yesenin's lyrics for Maya Kristalinskaya and had his song "My Love" performed by Gyulli Chokheli. He worked at various publishing houses and played a romance singer role in Oleg Biyma’s musical Just a Fairy Tale.... In 1984, he became a member of the Union of Soviet Composers. His songs were performed by prominent Soviet singers such as Sofia Rotaru, Iosif Kobzon, and Anna German. Martynov received the Lenin Komsomol Prize in 1987 for his contributions to children’s music and youth education. He died on September 3, 1990, from acute heart failure. His songs continued to be performed posthumously by artists like Yulian, Nikolai Baskov, and Philipp Kirkorov.
