Adolf Fredriks Musikklasser was founded in 1939 in Stockholm, Sweden, as a municipal junior-high school focused on choral and classical music with a rigorous audition process and daily choir practice that produced a distinctive tradition of high-quality choral performance that has attracted international attention. The first major recording credited to the school was Sjung Av Hela Hjärtat (1996), followed by the 2000 album Sånger ur Majas alfabet. In 2010 the self-titled album Adolf Fredriks Musikklasser was issued, and the 2013 album Barn sjunger för barn showcased the ensemble’s youthful talent; Nu lyser julens stjärna (2014) and Jul & Lucia med Adolf Fredriks Musikklasser (2022) continued this tradition of seasonal repertoire. A notable single, "Euphoria" (2013), reflected the group’s adaptability to contemporary styles. Throughout its history the choirs have received multiple Grammis nominations in 1990, 2009, and 2013 and have been featured on recordings by the Adolf Fredriks Girls Choir and Adolf Fredriks Boys Choir. The school’s alumni include numerous prominent Swedish singers, composers, and conductors, underscoring its influence on Sweden’s choral and popular music scenes.
