Michael Keul, born in 1961 in Bad Kissingen, Germany, is a jazz drummer who studied at the Swiss Jazz School in Bern under Billy Brooks. He began his professional career as a freelance musician in Munich in 1988. Michael Keul's early collaborations included performances with notable artists such as Chet Baker and Clark Terry. From 1991 to 2006, he was a permanent member of the Al Porcino Big Band. In 1996, Michael Keul performed at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. He led his own ensembles, including the Samerberger Jazz Ensemble and Teacher’s Groove Big Band, and served as musical director for events like the Jazz & Wine Summer in Poysdorf. Michael Keul has contributed to over 50 CDs. He also released the albums Fishermen's Break (1991), Superfocus (2013) featuring Scott Hamilton, and Contact Tracing (2023).
