Tengku Ani Soraya binti Tengku Abdullah Sulaiman Shah, known as Anis Suraya, was born on 18 December 1980 in Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia. She entered the music scene after signing with Suria Records in 1998, releasing her debut studio album Anis Suraya on 1 February 1999, which featured the single "Cinta Tersimpul Rapi" that entered the Malaysian charts. In 2000 she followed with Getaran Cinta, and in 2002 released Suara Hati, her last album under Suria Records before parting ways with the label. Anis Suraya earned exposure with a 2000 win at Voice of Asia in Kazakhstan and performed at subsequent festivals, while continuing to contribute to cultural projects in Terengganu.
